Shall we dance?

While you are waiting for the grand unveiling I wanted to share one of my favourite pieces of art from my home with you. This is a picture called 'Sky Dance' by a very talented British artist called Debra Stroud. It hangs above my mantle piece in my lounge and I love it. It has such a feeling of movement and light to it and I never get tired of looking at it.

The picture is of the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights which is named after the Roman goddess of the dawn, Aurora, and the Greek name for north wind, Boreas. Especially in Europe, it often appears as a reddish glow on the northern horizon, as if the sun were rising from an unusual direction and this is what Debra captured in this picture. I have always been fascinated with this phenomenon, ever since I saw it on a television programme as a child, and it is on my list of 'things to see'. There are so many wonderful things in this world I sometimes wonder how I will see everything! For now I have my picture and I never forget that there are wonderful things right where I am too.

Don't forget to come back soon and see what is afoot at BK's. I can't wait to show you...

A lovely painting. What a nice way of reminding yourself that there is so much beauty to be seen if you know where to look.

You're pretty far North, B-K. I'd imagine you'd occasionally be able to see the Northern Lights from there. You could see them every few years from where I grew up in northern NY. I've read that up in Scotland they're visible when the sun is feeling frisky.

There used to be a site online in Alaska with a live webcam to show the aurora. It has died an untimely death. I miss that site. In 2005 the aurora were seen here in Virginia one night, of course I missed it.

You are switching over to the new blogger and have a new template, right?
