Stolen

I am pretty upset.

I couple of hours ago I had my hand bag and lap top stolen. It's not so much the value of things but the irreplaceable things that are priceless to me.The laptop can be replaced as can the credit cards etc. But there are some things I can't replace and the worst thing is that they have no value to the thieves that took it.

Photos. Luckily I had backed up most of my photos on the laptop but not all so I can never replace those. There were also personal files that I have lost including those for my MBA.

I had my MBA files backed up on a memory stick. Unfortunately today, my memory stick was in my hand bag so they are gone.

My mother bought me my handbag for Christmas. It had sentimental value and now it is probably discarded somewhere. There was also a key ring that had huge sentimental value. Yes, I know it's only a key ring but it was mine.

My housekeys were in my bag with my purse. My drivers licence was in my purse. I am now waiting for an emergency locksmith to come and change my locks otherwise I will be too worried to sleep. The insurance company have been bugger all help and not very re-assuring. I am extremely worried about identity theft.

Cash stolen is a pain. Cancelling credit cards is inconvenient but I'll get over it.

In my laptop bag were my MBA books. I have an essay to submit in two weeks and now all my notes, text books (with annotations) and work have gone. There are no extensions on this deadline but I have contacted my tutor anyway. Fingers crossed.

The police asked me if I would attend court if they caught the thieves. I said if they gave me the book I would chuck it at them personally.

I am trying to be positive. For example, I didn't have my camera with me so that is safe. I had my mobile phone on me and my current account card so that is a big plus. I wasn't hurt, thank goodness, and other than my identity, they are only things after all.

Update: The lock smith has been so my home is secure once more and that is a big worry off my mind!

The items were stolen from my partners place. They broke a window and took my things. The police think they were disturbed by us coming back because my things are all they took. I am very glad we didn't walk in on them and that we were all safe.

Oh, my... how horrible for you. I am so sorry! Were you mugged? I'm glad they didn't hurt you. Makes me think I should empty out my wallet and only carry what is absolutely necessary. I do hope they can recover your laptop and purse.

Again, very, very glad you weren't hurt. You are not replaceable.
Michele directed me here but I would have gotten here eventually.

You got my numbers, honey.

Oodles of hugs - and phone me if the locksmith doesn't turn up. Me and my sleeping bag are on Red Alert.

I am with you on throwing the book. There is nothing so despicable as those who invade your personal space - and waltz off with half of it.

mwah!! Love you, hon.

I am so sorry to hear this! I hope they catch the bastards that did it.
It's good of you to stay positive. I am keeping my fingers crossed that your MBA professor will give you an extension.
Michele sent me

Oh, I'm sorry you had such a bad day. That's the second person I've heard of in the last couple of days who lost priceless research notes. It makes me worry about where I keep my main backup (on a separate hard drive right next to my computer).
Michele didn't send me but I saw your comments there, and came over to offer commiserations. Hope you get special consideration for a deadline extension.

Oh no! The non-dollar value of our possessions is usually understimated, and I'm sorry that so many were taken away from you. :(

I hope you get the extension, and they catch the thieves and maybe even get some stuff back.

Btw, here from Michelle's today.

I'm so sorry to hear that this happened to you, I hope they're able to locate the person who took your stuff & retrieve at least some of it. Especially the less 'valuable' (in a material sense) stuff which may truly mean more to you.
Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier.

Bob-kat, the most important thing is that you are well. I know how frustrating and worrisome this is, but as you said - they are just things. I hope taht the police catch the thieves and that they can recover your purse and personal effects.

What a terrible terrible thing.Darn.
But amazing that you still looked at the postive side--that you were unhurt and did not walk in when they were at it.
Wish I could help in some way.

Oh that is just horrific, my dear...I don't know what is worse for you---the MBA files or the Photographs or the Purse & Key ring...Well, it's all terrible....I am so very sorry this happened to you. The identity theft thing is a real worry and I sure hope you don't have that to deal with...
I pray they are able to recover your laptop because I cannot imagine what the loss of those MBA writings must be to you.

Awwwwwwwwww, Bob-Kat :( I hate that :( May I suggest Carbonite? It's a program that backs up all your computer information on a web server in case it ever gets lost or stolen...although I know that doesn't help you now, maybe next time. (((HUGS))) If I ever had my keys or laptop stolen, I would be a wreck...I feel so bad for you :(

Call your internet service provider and ask them to track your account activity. If the thieves use your laptop to access the Internet, the ISP will be able to track the IP address.

This technique has recently been used to recover stolen laptops in the U.S., and it is something more and more ISPs are becoming aware of.

Call your ISP ASAP to initiate proceedings. They've already got your account info, so it should be relatively easy to set up.

Wow...that's got to be one of the most horrible feelings ever. Kudos for looking to the bright side of it all. I don't know if I could, so quickly - within hours!

I'm with you hoping for that extension. You're certainly not under "normal circumstances" for the request. Good luck.

That is absolutley awful!!! I am glad to hear that you weren't hurt (physcially)
I do hope that you somehow will get your belongings returned to you.

bobkat I just read this post....I'm glad to hear that you weren't personally hurt but I can only imagine how that would make you feel violated. It is one of those things that happens to "other people", not to us personally.

Hang in there kiddo.

This is horrible! As someone who is going to graduate school right now, I can completely relate to what you must be experiencing. I know it is probably hard right now, but try not to stress out. Surely your professors will understand your circumstances and help you during this moment.

I am so sorry! Why do bad things have to happen to good people?

Glad you're ok. Catching up, sorry to hear about your woes. I've been ripped off a few times, and it sucks in a big way.
