Aftermath

It's the day after now and I still feel awful. Someone less than reputable out there knows who I am, where I live and what I look like (from my driving licence) and I don't like it. I don't think it helped that I didn't sleep well and this morning I realised that those stinking thieves also have the keys to my beloved MX5 (Miata). Of course I can't lock it safely in the garage as they have the key to my garage also so I went out and bought one of those Disklok thingy's that go over the steering wheel. I hope that will be enough of a deterent if they fancy their chances.

The emergency locksmith came by last night at 10:45pm! Anyway, he changed one of the locks on the front door and one on the back but couldn't do the garage, or other two locks so they are hopefully being ordered for me. He also broke the handle on my back door and then tried to pretend that it was like that before. Er..excuse me I don't think so!

I just hope insurance will pick up the bill for all this! When I phoned them they were less than helpful. Apparently it is all my fault for having a crisis outside of normal office hours! What was I thinking people? Next time I should plan these things better! Apparently the emergency helpline does not have access to any information so ergo is not actually much help so needs renaming. I need to phone a grown up on Monday and then I will see...

My tutor, also, has been about as much help as a chocolate teapot. I finally got hold of him today only to be told that I should contact student services on Monday. He seemed oblivious to the fact that I had no books and needed them NOW! I have to start reading and making notes all over again and that deadline is not getting further away.

My cards are all cancelled, although the lady at the Card Protection place took the opportunity to try and sell me additional cover! I could scarce believe my ears! I have also bought new padlocks for my gates and fitted them so I can do no more util tomorrow. I have worked out that they got away with £800 of MY belongings. I will never be able to replace some of the things that had sentmental value or my MBA essay notes. Of course I would have a busy week at work ahead too wouldn't I? Do you ever get the impression that it never rains but it pours? I figure I am now due a huge karmic payout so I am off to buy a lottery ticket...

Terrible. It doesnt matter what we all do now to try to prevent these things, unfortunately the determined thief seems to get away with it.

I've had car radios stolen and even had the replacement radio from the insurance company stolen from the delivery firm.

With stolen credit cards, the banks seem to leave them switched on for a while to try to see where the suspect is spending the money. This was how someone was caught from my experience.

I hope the people from your course are more sympathetic in the cold light of day and that you get a chance to submit your MBA papers. Sometimes email is a useful source of backup, if you have sent some of the papers to other people.

My sympathies.

Babygirl, isn't it awful?

But your safety is worth more than £800, even possessions (yep, even your car!).

Look after yourself....

Haha! (the lottery ticket)

Good to see you've been able to cover the major bases your(own resposible)self. The handle issue sux rox, did the guy think you needed more frustration? I'd like to hear more about the paper you're working on, maybe there are hints in previous posts? I'd otherwise suggest a library, but you don't seem dumb enough to be told such a thing! :)

Thanks for poppin' over, Bob-Kat, and yes, I'm glad to read the update.

It is such a violation to be robbed...to have anything stolen from you. But when so much of your personal information gets taken, along with things that matter most, it's incredibly worse! I've been robbed before...and still feel angry at what the thieves took.

I hope that they (the thieves) don't steal your identity and that you are safe.

(((((((((HUGS)))))))))) I hope things start falling into place for you soon...what a mess :(

Yeeesh Bobkat, I hate that you're going through this.

I know you are aware that this too shall pass and that you'll "feel better" soon, but that doens't make the current feelings of anger and violation any better.

For what it is worth, I to am mad at the people who are causing you so much trouble. You're taking the right steps. As Ramona said, just keep putting one foot in front of the other and you'll come out the other side of this just fine.

Oh my! I am so sorry to hear about this. I hope the police can locate the thieves asap! Glad you weren't hurt by them, but I feel your pain as to the loss. Our house was robbed twice in one week about 4 years ago. Luckily, we found who did it, but never retrieved all the items. Good luck BobKat!!

Bobkat, if anyone deserves to win the lottery - it is you! I sure hope you hit it. Again, I am very sorry for all your trouble.

Wonder which Insurnce compant that was.You should mention the name, Bob-Kat.Hopefully they will be shamed into acting more sympathetically.
A shame about the books.I can imagine the supreme effort involved to make all those notes again.
Hugs Bob-kat.You will get through this too.

I think you did the smart thing in getting the steering wheel deterent for your car. That should probably help alleviate some stress in that department. Hopefully, the locksmith comes back and fixes the garage asap!

What is the deal with your tutor? I find it hard to believe that the best advice he could come up with was to contact Student Services. Maybe he just didn't know what to say. Hmm...

I have to agree with you: Good things surely will be coming in no time to offset this massive splurge of negativity!

That's just horrible, Bob-kat. I'm so sorry you had to go through this. I've had two places I'd lived in broken into but neither time was anything serious stolen--just kids on a dare, perhaps. I hope your emptied pocketbook is found and returned, B-K. Maybe you'll get your sentimental items back...

I'm still glad that you were not hurt. But a chocolate teapot sounds pretty good right now... chocolate seems to calm those anxieties. Hopefully, the day and week will get better.

I hope you win that damn Lottery, Bob-Kat!
It seems that you are doing everything you can to protect your safety...(Hope that get that Garage lock, quickly...)
But, as you said, those things that cannot be replaced are the most painful reminders of this true violation...I am so very sorry, my dear.
It is also disheartening to not be able to get the help you need, WHEN you need it---Insurance Company's Suck!

I will say some prayers for you, my dear.

Chocolate teapot! Yum!

Oh, forgot to say, I'm here via Sarch today. You and I hang out at some of the same blogs, and it's always nice to see ya around.

Hope your circumstances bend to your will and things are right again soon.
