No news...

Artwork by Charlotte Ahlgren

I'm in limbo. Or at least that's how it feels. I went to see the consultant only to be told that the results of the test were inconclusive and that they would have to remove Hector to find out exactly what sort of lump it is. Apparently, this is often the case so it begs the question: 'If FNA's are often inconclusive in cases such as mine WHY ON EARTH DID YOU SHOVE A NEEDLE INTO MY THROAT?! Personally I would have been happy to forego that experience and go straight to the surgery seeing as that was always on the cards anyway. It appears that in this case, no news is...well... no news.

So, I will be going for surgery in the New Year where they will remove Hector and the half of my thyroid where it has taken up residence. Once removed Hector will go to the path labs for tests. If Hector is benign then that will be that (other than a blood test to check my half-a-thyroid function). If however Hector is 'suspicious' then I will have to go in and the other half of my thyroid removed and undergo radio-isotope therapy and go onto hormone therapy for the resdt of my life.

My plan is to try and put the whole thing out of my mind as much as possible until after Christmas, but at the moment I'm still a bit miffed. I do not like not knowing.

Well, that sucks. Especially since the outcome could be two surgeries instead of one.

I don't know what to say except hang in there and plan for whatever little bit you can.

I am so sorry that the tests were inconclusive, and I don't blame you for being miffed. Prayers will follow!

I have worked really hard to accept things I can't control - I totally suck at it but it is a good concept ;)

keep trying to be in the moment - I know it's not easy but it really does work if you keep at it

you are upper most in my thoughts

Yeah, needles are gruesome things. I'm with you.

Enjoy the season and don't worry about Hector. He is what he is and like most men, nothing we can do will change him. Idiot.

How frustrating for you...however, I firmly think that if the Consultant had any suspicions whatsoever as to the nature of 'Hectors'threat, he'd had acted sooner.I know many people who have had swellings on their thyroid...it is a particular thing up here in Derbyshire due to the high lime content of the water...I think you will be inclined to worry yourself sick over this, but please try not to,whatever the outcome of the tests...you can be thankful that you're in good hands .

I'll try Niall, but I have been put on the list to be fast tracked. Otherwise I would have to wait much longer for my operation. There is no point worrying until I know more though.

Thanks for your support. All of you :)

I find that's always the worst thing... the not knowing. I'd be annoyed too!

Anyway, I hope you do manage to put it to the back of your mind and have a wonderful Christmas!

oh honey - not nice :-(

But hopefully they will take Hector away and find him to be completely benign.

btw - you visited while I was writing a new blog post - come back to see the latest post...you're mentioned!

I wish I knew why the best people were challenged so much more than everyone else. You've already had more on your plate than any one person deserved.

Praying this gets resolved quickly. I'm annoyed, too, when friends have to stare at the ceiling at night.

You know we are all still thinking of you and sending positive thoughts your way...I hope you have a nice xmas and try to focus on that rather then the surgery for now, although its easier said then done...Hugs from Canada..

I apologize for not being around sooner. The EMBLOS went into the hospital for emergency surgery on Thursday and I've been busy.

Know you continue to be in our thoughts and prayers. In fact, at the hospital today, the EMBLOS asked about you.

Cheers.
