Touched

January the 9th is rushing towards me like an out-of-control train. This Friday I go into hospital and Hector (the thyroid lump) is evicted for good, which is a good thing. The fact that this involves invasive surgery and a short stay in hospital is not so good. I am in fact dreading it and I feel a right wimp as people go through far worse than this. But here's the thing, this is happening to me. I have to go through this and I do not like the prospect one little bit. As I said to my humourless consultant 'Do I really have to be there?'

The weird thing is, that as much as I am not relishing the surgery and going under anaesthetic and spending a day or so with a drain in my neck (due to post op bleeding) I am dreading the whole staying in hospital thing so much more. I do not like anything medical and hate hospitals. I am a very private person and the thought of spending time in a ward with strangers is filling me with dread. I am also a light sleeper and so I have been looking for a way to make the unpleasant a little more bearable.

Enter the iPod Touch. I have just treated myself to one of these little gadgets and it is way cooler than I ever will be. I have loaded some films onto it and some music as well as games and have an immediate entertain-Bobkat-during-her-stay-in-hospital kit. The beauty of it is that I can shut out things around me as much as possible with a pair of earphones and if the person in the bed next to me snores I can simply pop them on and drift off.

This will be my last post before I go into hospital as I have lots to do around the home and at work before I go in, so wish me luck. Thanks to everyone who has left supportive comments, offered well wishes or said prayers for me. I have been touched and appreciate each and everyone from the heart of my bottom (or perhaps that should that be the bottom of my heart!). I will post as soon as I am back home and let you all know that the waiting is so much worse than the actual event. Fingers crossed!

Fingers definitely crossed for you, love.

Don't forget to download Stanza to the Touch -- you can read e-books (like The Demo Tapes!) that way!

Have fun with the Touch. I hope it takes your mind off everything else. Wards. Ick.

*Fingers crossed*

I've got an iPod Touch too! I've downloaded some of the free games and seem to use most of my battery up playing them!

Talking books are good too... I've got John Barrowman reading his autobiography on my Touch. Look out for some of the bargain albums on iTunes too.

Fingers crossed here too :-)

PS If you want to raid the iTunes library here, lemme know, bring a laptop and I'll set things up so you can grab more stuff to listen to.

Good luck to you. I know it seems trite to say, "This too shall pass," but it's true. A week from now, you'll be updating your blog to share your latest progress with us, the surgery and hospital stay already in the past.

In the meantime, I recommend practicing moans of anguish and facial expressions that convey excruciating pain. That way you'll spend your time in the ward so heavily medicated you won't care.

I'll be thinking of you!

Peace be with you in all of this.

Download some of the free apps like smallware's solitare and pac-man lite. That should keep you distracted for a while. My daughter likes the bubble wrap game.

Oh Yes, my dear, I DO indeed understand because I feel exactly the same way....Dread....That is the perfect word! I would need an iPod and a personal DVD player with 60 or so movies to just get through the one night...Like you, I am a light sleeper, and especially in a strange bed and a strange room....My thoights and prayers are so with you, my dear....May this all go by quicker than you think...And I pray for the BEST outcome for you---I truly do! Very cool and a great way to manage the time and environment.

Wishing you the very best as you go through this process.

You remind me so much of myself. I hate hospitals and have never had to stay in one (thanks be to God!) and would be filled with similar dread. I do wish you all the best and will pray for a positive experience all the way around. Peace be with you. Sounds like you got the right tool to help you through. Now go get 'em!

I can soooo empathize with you about the fear of hospitals and need for privacy and so on. The iPod touch is truly a great idea to help you cope with it. I just got myself a 3G iPhone and have loaded on a game called Rolando which keeps me engrossed for HOURS! You might want to look into it too. Not sure when you'll receive your book but do know it IS on the way.

Many hugs and I'll be thinking of you,
Ilana

BK it's gonna be fine girl. I've had a couple of stays in the hospital and realy it's not quite as terrible as it might seem. And with your I-Pod Touch you'll be in the catbirds seat!

Thinking about you and praying for you of course.

Hey, no worries about not getting The Demo Tapes yet. You've had a lot on your mind and I've got the advantage of not needing to make a sales quota within a certain time period.

In other words, Trevor, Mitchell, and I will be here when you're ready. Take care of yourself!

Be well, and of good cheer. You shall come through this trial as well. I know it.

Consultants really DO need to gather up a sense of humour! The Crazy Queen sent me over to offer up a bit of cheer, so CHEERS! Well... I'm drinking coffee... hope you're at home by now enjoying a nice cup yourself! I hope your surgery went well, and since I'm one of those praying people, I'll even toss in some of that! Heal well! The nightmare is over by the time you see this!

CQ sent me to "Wag my finger" and tell you to rest and get better soon.
