Kitten Love

Meet Max.

Max is an itty bitty lil kitten who is going to help fill the big hole in my life that Bob left behind. Bob, of course, is irreplaceable but I have practically had a cat my whole life and I miss not having a cat in my life. I miss being met at the front door when I come home and having an animal presence around. My lizards are great but somehow they just aren't the same.

Max is a Seal Point Ragdoll kitten which is a breed of cat known to be affectionate and biddable. They get their name as many of them go limp when picked up, though this is certainly not true of all of them. He will be coming to live with me at the end of June (ish) which gives me plenty of time to prepare for his arrival and enough space to get over losing Bob.

Guess who has already been buying new cat beds, toys and other kitty related paraphernalia? I just bought these cool looking cat toys for him and also a great scratching post based on a cylinder design with two levels and holes in the side to go in and out of and hide. I am counting on this to help save my furniture, especially my new leather sofa! It also has a ball on elastic string so I am envisioning a few comedic moments with that!

I am very much looking forward to getting to know my new kitten. I will be visiting him again next week and hope to take more photos then. The one at the top of this post was just a quick pic taken with a mobile phone. Max had been playing all day and he was tired. I scooped him up and sat him on my lap and asked him if he wanted to come and live with me. He made eye contact and then settled down on my hand and went to sleep. I took that as a yes.

Ohhhhh What a dear little ball of fur is Max! I am so happy for you, my dear...Of course Bob will live in your heart, always, but this new little kitty will bring you so much joy and happiness! I love that he fell asleep right there in the palm of your hand-----I would have taken that as a YES, too!
CONGRATULATIONS, my dear......!

Awww. Max is so very cute and adorable! :)

I love that play thing where the cat lies down and bats at the toys... Strangely enough, I was looking at one for babies (since my neice/nephew is due to arrive later in the year) and thought my 2 boys (cats) would enjoy something like that!

I get the feeling you've made a firm friend there :-)

There's something about cats and dogs. Yep, they can be bribed by tidbits but they'll not stick around people who they get bad vibes from. So to have a kittycat or a puppy choose your lap to fall asleep in is a big compliment.

PS One of the best things about going to see my mum & dad is the dog letting me know how much he missed me.

I have always wanted a ragdoll! They are beautiful, and because of the way they are generally raised ("underfoot" as I've been told by most breeders) they are always so personable. I totally agree with you that Max will never replace Bob, but when you have had an animal around for all your life, there is a definite difference when that type of animal is no longer there.

When I got my cat Shadow (20 years ago), he did the same thing...climbed into my lap, looked at me and fell asleep on my lap. The little girl who owned the mama cat said to me, "oh, you HAVE to take him...his eyes are the same color as yours!"

My ownership of Skittles came much the same way - she climbed into my lap at 3 weeks old and promptly peed on me, then fell asleep. SOLD!

No one, animal or person, can replace the loss of another. But new ones come along who can help us bear the loss.

I'm so happy Max will be joining you!

I've pics up today of Mac & Jazz - http://kateekat.blogspot.com/

Have a blessed week! :)

Max is simply adorable. That breed of feline will be loyally at your side every morning and every evening. You made such a great choice for a new pet!

I'm glad you two found each other. I'm sure he'll love the toys and you as much as you will love him.

Cheers.

I'm glad to hear this BK. Methinks Max is one lucky cat. And methinks BK will soon be head over heals in love with this little furball. Good for you. What a pretty cat!

OH HOW LOVELLLLY! I have tears of joy in my eyes right now because I did think that adopting another cat would be such a good thing for you but didn't dare say it in case you felt you weren't ready for it yet. Of course no living creature will ever replace Bob-Kat, but Max here is one adorable little furball and it sounds like you two will get along just fine.

I'm crying! I turn into this sentimental blob when it comes to animals. I can well imagine how exciting it must be to get kittie toys and accessories for your new arrival. It's part of the joy of having pets for me. And you know, looking at that lovely photo of sleepy Max (btw, many phone cameras do a very decent job when all you need is a small photo), makes me think that the one and only regret I have regarding Mimi is that I didn’t see her grow up, because she must have been an absolute joy as a baby.

Congratulations to the new mum! Thrilled for you. Thrilledxx

Max is adorable! Congratulations!

Of course one pet can't replace another, but it would be a shame to not give love and care to another kitty in Bob's memory.
