Sailing on the friendship

I have spent a lot of time sat at my desk in front of my computer while I have been doing my MBA project. This of course is a totally different desk and computer to the one I spend the rest of my waking time at which is at work. On my study desk I have a little calendar which was given to my for Christmas by my friend CrazieQueen. It is one of those page a day calendars and apart from telling me what day it is, and which month it is (very important stuff) it also imparts a little thought about friendship in a pretty little floral way. Sometimes these quotes or sayings are philosophical, some are deep and meaningful while others are humorous, but all of them ring true in some way. I thought I would share a few of them with you:

A loyal friend laughs at your jokes when they're not so good, and sympathizes with your problems when they're not so bad
~Arnold H. Glasgow

Friendship is one of the sweetest joys of life. Many might have failed beneath the bitterness of their trial had they not found a friend.
~Charles H. Spurgeon

I don't need a friend who changes when I change and who nods when I nod; my shadow does that much better.
~ Plutarch

When friends ask, there is no tomorrow.
~ Proverb

A good friend is a connection to life - a tie to the past, a road to the future, the key to sanity in a totally insane world
~ Lois Wyse

Constant use will not wear ragged the fabric of friendship
~ Dorothy Parker

One loyal friend is worth ten thousand relatives
~ Euripides

I haven't got a huge circle of friends. I tend not to keep associates but would much rather have a few good friends. The sort that are there to enjoy the fun and frolics of the fair weather but also the rough sailing too. My life has been so out of kilter that I have not been able to indulge in my friends as much as I would like to, but I know they are there. And when I get this MBA project out of the way, and then the final essay I can start to return some sort of balance to my life and see my friends again.

I won't be around much for the next few days, due to work and study pressures, but as with my other friends, I will be back to socialise here too very soon.

Take all the time you need - we will be here waiting. I like all your quotes, but the Plutarch one spoke to me.

Yes, take all the time you need. There will be time for us when there needs to be.

I love quotes, these are very meaningful.
Euripides' would be Mr Mar's favorite, lol.
Good luck with your MBA project, I remember getting my MA but then I was 100% student, unlike you I didn't have a formal job and I imagine your time struggle. Take all the time you need.

Get the work done. We'll be around.

Really enjoyed the quotes, I will steal a few for my collection ;)

find a little balance, even now, even if just for a moment - have an herbal tea, walk outside for a minute, take a mega vitamin.

Keep up your strength so close to the finishing line.

Good luck with your project(s). We'll be patiently waiting to hear all about them.

It's been a number of years since I received my MBA but I remember doing those projects well. A lot of work but often satisfying. Over here they're mostly group projects, I suspect it's the same there. I enjoyed the teamwork that was involved.

Hi BobKat,
I really enjoyed your post, and the friendship quotes.
I love those calendars daily calendars, any and all subjects! I give them out often as little Christmas gifts, but never have had one for myself! I think I'll get one!
Here from Michele's.

Ah! How you must look forward to finishing that MBA program. I think it's admirable to take on such a big challenge while doing a demanding job at the same time.

Enjoyed the quotes, it’s safe to say I'll be here when you get back :-)

Hi Sweetie - I was coming to see you anyway and Michele agreed.

I'm glad you liked the calendar - the selection of quotes makes it sound a good choice from your friend [smiles shyly]

I know, all too well, how busy you are at the moment. Along with your circle of true friends, I'll be waiting patiently in the wings until you have some spare time. Then we will help fill that spare time with love and laughter - and maybe some alcohol!

My choice of the sayings quoted would be the Plutarch - although Euripedes' quote comes a close second.

Dropped by from Michele's on this cold Canadian Sunday to thank you for sharing this. I've long had few friends because I have no interest in popularity contests. The friends that I do have are dear to me.

I also have precious little time to spend with those who matter: life gets busy, as you can well attest. But true friends get that, and they find ways to be there, even if they can't actually be WITH us while we're buried by life.

Thinking of you as you hammer through this final mountain of degree-related work.

We are always around, checking in, and feel the same back from you...take the time u need ...
Although I think we are all blessed with or online friends...I think the word friend is fitting...because we share our lives on here...as for the rl friends...those quotes ring true..but I really don't have many close rl friends...the ppl I know who have hords, usually seem to be superficial...I can count the close friends I actually have on one hand..those I would run through a burning building for, as they would for me...its quality, not quantity thats important.....I look forward to your return...take care of yourself.
