Snow!

I have been seeing some wonderful pictures of snow on other blogs lately. Beautiful scenes of crisp white snow covering trees, gardens, mountains and homes and transforming even the most mundane of suburbs into winter wonderlands. Where I live in the UK we hardly ever get snow...until Friday that was, when the inimitable rain turned to sleet and then to great big fluffy flakes of snow which fell thick and fast.

I had been lying on the sofa watching a film, (off work ill with my chest infection), when I became aware that the light in the room had darkened somewhat and when I looked out the window I could see the rain turning to snow right in front of me. It settled quickly and turned the road I live on into a modern Dickensian scene. I quickly grabbed my camera and donned my coat and grabbed a shot or two from the front door. After all, it doesn't snow often here and I wanted to record it. Besides my close looks so much prettier when it's frosted. The snow stopped after an hour or so and turned back to rain. As quickly as it had come it was washed away, with my photos being the only evidence it had been here at all.

Endnote: I am aware that snow can cause much disruption and that it is not everyone's cup of tea, but there is no denying it's beauty!

What a lovely winter wonderland, I especially like how well the deep maroon of the house in the first picture shows up the flakes & the lightly frosted trees.
Michele sent me to witness your winter fun & to thank you for your visit earlier to my blog.

What a lovely neighborhood you have! Snow is nice if it doesn't overstay its welcome.

Where I live in the UK (the Midlands), it's been endless rain. Fortunately it kept the nasty snow away.

Well, snow is certainly beautiful, BK. Nice picture. But I'm glad I'm not there!

Michele sent me - I did not look favourably on Friday's excuse for snow....

I left the training venue at 2:30 and walked in the door at 9:20. Allowing for an hour or so refuge at cyberkitten's house, with floods that meant I took 6 hours to travel 50 miles. I was near your place for an hour and a half at 6pm - I just couldn't get to you.

One man's winter wonderland is another's mess, eh? Nighttime snow is my my favorite. No one on the roads; the penumbra of streetlights; quiet.

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Cheers.

I'm so glad you were able to capture the fleeting scene before it melted away into history.

It's been unseasonably warm here in the Great White North. Everything's melted away, with absolutely no trace of snow to remind us that this is indeed a Canadian winter. Your pictures give me hope that the beauty will soon return.

All the best from Michele's today. Glad you're doing better!

Hi! Michele sent me.

What a lovely scene! We never get snow here. If we do it melts before it hits the ground.

Beautiful shots Bobkat!! I am not a big fan of snow...for driving and whatnot...but it does look beautiful when it is falling. So you got the best of both worlds....the view as it was coming down and lasting only for a few hours!

Hope you feel better soon!

It seems like most of the UK has had at least a little bit of snow so far... not here yet though.

Michele has sent me to say the BBC has just warned us of more flooding this week - it's pretty much going to rain all week...

I think the post was about the photos of the snow which are great. A little snow adds colour and variety to your photos.

Look for the good people and stop looking for problems, funny thing is you'll always find them without much effort.

Sadly the snow never made the journey up to Derbyshire!..I love the snow..In fact, it almost seems as if people in England look down their noses at you if you enthuse about it..one flake and the whole place grinds to a halt!..So every time snow is forecast, I make sure that I find myself in the company of those who hate it ..and talk about it as much as possible.!ehehehe!

I completely agree with Niall. Some people are just way to concerned to find problems. Snow is great in all sorts of ways.

I love that first picture! It really gives one the sense of the beauty you are talking about....! I too always loved when the snow came down and stuck to the trees, turning everything into a 'winter wonderland'...But all the rest of it? Well, I'm just glad I don't have to battle that anymore...! (lol)

I am green with envy! That snow makes the red just seem to pop off the paper! Here in my corner of Virginia, we hardly ever get snow. It flurried for about an hour on my birthday and while most of the state is getting the white fluffy stuff today, here on the coast it is rain, rain and more rain. We did need it though!

Just realized I missed this one...glad I caught it before it fell off the grid.

I love these photos! I'm sure it is much due to the foreigness of another country, but your pictures have such a fairy tale quality to me. Absolutely beautiful.

Silly ignorant American question - what do you mean by "my close" is prettier when frosted?

I love the snow photos. It stays so warm here the whole year, that it almost seems unreal that so many are experiencing such cold weather and snow and ice. I'd like to make a brief trip somewhere cold to "get the feel of it" again, and quickly come home to warm up.
