The Mind Googles

I was idly checking my blog site meter stats yesterday as it made a pleasing diversion from the essay I had been slaving over all day. It can get tiring solving your organisational problems y'know so a girl needs a small break! Anyway, I was marvelling at how flung some people are that visit my humble blog. Lately I have had visitors from Morocco, Guam, Australia (Hi Melody), Czech Republic, Germany, Russia, Spain (Hi Mar), India (Hi PS), Canada (Hi Carmi) and just about every state in the US (Hi All) and from all over Great Britain. It's quite amazing to think that people are able to read my ramblings from so far away!

I also found it interesting to see how people came to my blog. I recognised many of the folks who often visit me and found that a lot of people end up at my blog through Google. These are the search words that seem to bring them here:
  • Bobcat or Bobkat
  • Smallest castle (in the world/ in England/in Britain)
  • Bouncy balls
  • Gorillas
Interestingly enough my nom de plume brings flocks of people to my site. I can only assume they are disappointed when they get here if they are looking for large earth moving equipment, a patented hull design or llamas! Yes, you read that correctly, llamas (check out the links in bold). However, one set of search words particularly amused me and perturbed me all at once. I cannot begin to wonder what type of person this is or why, after typing in those search words they visited my blog, or why they should think that these particular 'items' would be any different on Christmas Eve to the rest of the year. Sometimes, I think such questions are best left unanswered.

For now, it's back to the essay for me, wish me luck as I'm up against a tight deadline, and next week I have an important meeting where I find out if I still have my job or if Alpha Male is being put back in his box. After that I have my work Christmas meal. I'm not sure I'll be in the mood but hopefully I will have something to celebrate rather than sorrows to drown.

hey BK [from 5 miles up the road!]

I think Alpha Female should get the job, tell Alpha Male where the nearest door is....

Our team is so over-stretched, demoralised and scared, the Christmas meal ended up five of us in a pub while everyone else went back to work.

Michele sent me to say I think we need a night out with pizza and silly film...

Maybe Christmas Eve is the only time that poor person gets to see any?

Best of luck with the job this week; you deserve some really stellar news!

(greetings from Mars. Or West of Mars, more accurately. But you forgot to mention your inter-planetary visitor!)

Hi BK! Here from Michele's today. I don't think those visits were from me as I have not been traveling (virtually or otherwise) in some time. I have a lot of catching up to do.

I get some strange hits as well. I once wrote a piece about thongs (the shoes) just to see what kind of search activity I got. As you might have guessed - the weirdos came out of the woodwork - only to find a pair of shoes!!

Whew, I thought I was the only one who peeked at my stats and wondered where everyone comes from!

Now that you mention it, I have to admit that I get warm fuzzies inside whenever I think about it. Through this humble little site, I've connected with an incredible group of people around the world. It's nothing short of a miracle, and a quick occasional stop into my stats reminds me how lucky i am to be part of this community.

Thanks for the reminder. And the hi. Hi right back at you, my friend. Happy writing!

Hello, Michele sent me to say that one wonders how people google things and end up with our blogs...I don't know how to search out how people get to my blog...maybe it is a good thing???

Most of my traffic is from Google too and I have to say I haven't gotten anything strange or, you know. I hope things improve for you at work because I know things have been very stressful for you there. I do wish you the best.

That last one is really peculiar. I will have to tell a few people that would appreciate that one. Shaking my head in extreme amusement.

Last night I was thinking of writing about some of the odder spam that I get at my various e-mail addresses.

Oh....and I almost forgot that I was sent here via Michele. Thank you, Michele for sending me.

This post made me smile a lot. One finds tiny insanities every day in the Blogosphere. :-)

I think that anytime people stop by your blog they are in for a treat! Especially when they are looking up something remote.
I am making a new years resolution to check out my blog friends more often. I've been out of action, and I miss it!

I love the stat counter too - the things people search for combined with the spam one gets could make a great short story or character study! Michele and I both hope things are working out at work for you.
