Flora

January and February in the UK are two of the most miserable months weather-wise. The overall theme is grey, damp, grey, overcast, grey, wet and did I mention how grey it looks? Don't get me wrong, we can have some glorious weather here but this time of the year can be pretty depressing. In fact January is a month where suicide, becoming bankrupt and getting divorced are far more prevalent. Can you blame a girl if she needs cheering up then? You might understand then, why I was so pleased to be given a large hand tied bouquet of flowers, and as you can tell from the photos, they are absolutely beautiful!

As ever, something so lovely inspired me to take some photographs and so I took them outside to make the most of the natural light. I think the flowers must have cheered the weather up too as the sun made an appearance. I think the dark edge to the carnation above looks fantastic.

All the flowers were gorgeous but the ones that really stood out were the roses. I love how the petals unfurl around the centre of the flower and how the edges are just turned over. There were also iris in the bouquet as you can see in the photo above, as well as chrysanthemums, gysoplila, lilies, hypericum berries and alstromera.

Above is another photo of one of the roses and below I have included close up of the alstromera.
Below is a shot of teh iris which are a springtime flower in the UK. Having these flowers in my home will definitely hold the grey weather at bay! Meanwhile I also have an amaryllis about to bloom and in the garden I have daffodil bulbs sprouting. Spring is defintely on the way!

beautiful flowers, they should brighten up the most depressingly grey day. It's snowing and blowing hard here now, we got a bit of a break this morning which allowed me to do a few miles on skis. Michele says hi!

Incredible! I mean to tell you that those photos are a visual feast. Especially for those of us dealing with the grey days of Winter. What a gift...thanks bobkat.

When I enlarged one I could almost smell it. I'll be sneezing soon :)

Speaking of enlarging photos - would you have any idea why I can only get the first photo I upload to enlarge when it is clicked on? Are my files too big perhaps?

If I could afford it, I would have Fresh Flowers delivered every few days....Oh My....Especially from this one floris...The owner/designer is such an "ARTIST"....Well, I think I will begin imaging this and then hope my imaging works!

I just put up a new post a bit ago on the Amaryllis Update....Beautiful things happening!

I love the alstromera and never knew what they were before. Flower identification is so difficult. I always forget that the leaf pattern is just as important as the petal number and shape and other flower features. Btw, did someone special give them to you?
