Home zoo

Say hello to Dessie, the newest member of my household. This is what happens when I'm given a bonus at work and I treat myself to something I would like!

Dessie is a Bearded Dragon and hails from Australia. At the moment she is still a baby at about 10 inches long but she will grown to about 2 feet (including tail). Just look at those markings down her back - isn't she beautiful?

Dessie is not the most active of creatures, choosing to mostly bask under her heat lamp on her favourite branch. She comes down for her twice daily feed which includes crickets and veggies, though she much prefers the crickets. She is extremely docile and hand tame and enjoys watching the fish in the aquarium. So far Bob the cat has not really shown much interest and as long as he doesn't have to share his food I don't think he's bothered!

I have quite the home menagerie these days with Bob, the fish, the two geckos and Dessie. I like having animals in my life.

Where will she stay most of the time after she grows to full length? I can't imagine having one underfoot.

Kenju - Dessie has her own vivarium which is 4 foot long and of course she comes out from time to time as well.

Oooh, she's lovely! I love when a home is filled with animals, all cared for by folks who understand and love them. When I wrote about pet people a couple of weeks back, I may as well have been writing about you!

May Dessie have a long and happy life in your care.

How does Bob deal with the critters? They're all much smaller than him, I'm sure...though Dessie appears she could hold her own....

I had a Bearded Dragon in my office for a while, but I would up giving her to my vet technician niece. She was fun to feed with micelets. Good times.

cheers.

Oh Dessie is very very BEAUTIFUL! And I hope you will keep showing us her growthe spurts---if there spurts, that is----Her markings are truly gorgeous! It will be interesting to see if Bob becomes more interested as Dessie gets bigger! CONGRATULATIONS on your Newest Household Member! Your little family is growing!

And what a pretty girl she is. But TWO FEET? Now that's impressive I was thinking exactly that "quite a menagerie she's putting together" but I'm all for it the more the merrier I say and in my humble experience, zootherapy is what's worked best for me so far (more than meds, shrinks, yoga, meditation, etc)

Btw... don't know if you saw my reply to you on my post a bout the Zoo book, but I was saying (among other things) if you're interested in it I'd be glad to send it over to you. No rush, I'm keeping it until I hear from you one way or the other.

Hey BobKat,
I have been n absolute horrible blogger this year...mostly because I am feeling like I have nothing of interest to write about. I am most sorry however, that I have not kept up with my blogfriends and what is giong on in their world. I am very sorry to hear that you were ill (there is a terrible cold going around in Canada as well that seems to take months to get rid of). hope that you are feeling better now.
There is nothing worse than being on the 'outs' with your family, but it seems to me that you have some good insight into what is going on with them all. CONGRATULATIONS on your achievments! I am terrified of the thought of starting a Masters program, and have been procrastinating starting the process.
I thing your new pets are lovely! I also like reptiles, and wouldn't mind getting a snake, I think that they are quite beautiful. I likely would have a problem feeding them tho, the thought of live bugs or mice would give me the heebie-jeebies! I am very intrigued by your new pets and am looking forward to the beautiful photos you will take of them.
