Last Year

Today is the day it happened. One year ago today my niece was knocked off her bicycle by a car and died in hospital less than 24 hours later from her injuries. She was 11 years old. One year ago today I wrote this.

Tomorrow, September 9th is the day my niece was pronounced dead. A year has passed and my thoughts are drawn back to that day. Last year on that day I wrote this.

We all miss Jessica. She was a bubbly girl who was chatterbox and a half and loved dancing. My family is going to present her dance school with a plaque to be awarded to the student who improves the most, in her memory. She is sorely missed there as she used to help all the younger children learn the steps to the dances.

My family all miss her very much.

Susan, we are moving forward all the time. Even my sister (her mother) though she is far from completely healed still.

We have our own Jessica, now twelve. I know how terribly we would miss her, so I can truly feel your pain.

My aunt lost her son 5 years ago and she is still not over it. I have an 11 year old and my heart hurts as I read about your loss.

What a lovely thing to do in her memory. I hope it helps with some of the pain your family is feeling.

I'm so glad you're doing something so concrete to preserve her memory. I admire your courage in doing so...I look at my kids every day and wonder "what if..." I wish I could talk with God and ask him why this ever has to happen.

May you and your entire family know no further sorrow.

It has been such a fast year since ...my heart went out to you and your family when I read your post then, and when I read it now. Time does heal the great pain but time is relative...and different for everyone...and although the pain can be felt less, we never forget the specialness of the person we lost. My thoughts are with you........

Oh how horribly sad. I have tweens/teens and just can only imagine the heart break for her family.

I do like the way they are memorializing her by giving a dance award in her name. Cheers.

Still, a year on, as a reader, it is heartbreaking to read the two posts you reference. My thoughts go to your family.

I cannot believe it has been a year BK. It was a terrible tragedy for you and your family. I remember being moved to tears when I originally read your post a year ago. As you know I have had a hard week myself but today, my thoughts and good wishes are with you.

I remember well, Bob-Kat, when this happened. A very sad day, indeed, for you and your family.
I cannot believe it has been a whole year already....! I know it must still be very very hard, my dear. I don't think one ever gets over the loss of a child or niece...She was such a bright spot in all of your lives in every way....You can see it in this picture. My heart goes out to you all.

I don't find the right words to say, I remember the devastating news...
Hugs to you and your family.

Just checking in to remind myself of the "real" instead of the nightmare of meaningless things like politics.

If I hugged you any harder it would hurt.

What a beautiful young girl. And your earlier posts share so much about her...she exudes happiness. And what a nice way to share her memory.

I wasn't around to read about this last year, so I've just now read your two previous posts and found out about your loss. It's always sad to see someone pass away but it's quite tragic to see one so young be taken in the vibrancy of youth. There is not "right" or "wrong" way of going about dealing with something like this, though acknowledging the pain and allowing yourself to properly grieve sounds like you're doing the best thing, in such circumstances.

My sincere (if belated) condolences
