Holding out for a Negative

I have been experiencing some discomfort in my calf muscle for the past few days but over the weekend it got so bad that it became difficult to walk. Stairs and steps have become pretty tricky and I have developed a limp that would easily win all the trophies at a limping contest. Seeing as it didn't seem to be getting any better despite yelling at it and ordering it to stop hurting, I took it to the doctors. Now my legs don't usually see the light of day so showing them off to someone was a bit daunting. Who knew what effect actual daylight might have on them?

The doctor prodded and poked and made a 'hmmm' noise and then uttered three little letters. Just three of them, meaningless on their own but when put together they weren't something I wanted to hear: D.V.T. The doctor suspects DVT. It isn't confirmed yet but she took some blood for testing. If it comes back positive for (insert long Latin medical name here) then I need to go in for a scan.

Negative generally has, well, negative meaning in life while positive is seen as something good. This time I'm counting on something negative happening. Fingers crossed.

Update: The doctor said that I would be informed if the test result was positive within a day, but that if it was negative then no-one would ring so I should get in touch if I had heard nothing just to confirm this. But when I rang the doctors the officious secretary informed me that it took 7-10 working days for test results to come back. I was quite taken aback and informed her what it was for and so she melted a bit and said she would look. There is nothing on my records so I am left in the dark still. I would very much like to know what I am dealing with here. Is no news good news?

saying prayers for you. I saw my doctor for that same issue a few weeks ago. I complained about a pain that's been there for several months (it took that long to get an appointment to see him!). He told me it was muscular. Highly doubtful, but still. HE was quick to dismiss it. I pushed. He requested a CT scan. Have not heard the results yet.

If it is DVT, by all means have it addressed. the cure is easy enough with blood thinners and such. At least that's what they do here for excessive clotting. If you been to experience substantial coughing for no apparent reason or chest pains, get to a doctor or ER.

Prayers for you.

Cheers.

Have you flown lately? If it is DVT, please get treatment immediately! I hope you will be okay, Bob-kat.

There's a positive to every negative - if it is a DVT, that means they can hopefully start doing something about it to fix it ... The bigger problem comes from an injury that deteriorates but doesn't have a cause they can track down.

I'm dreading the doctor's trip I'll eventually have to do, my right arm isn't very useful to me now due to a few old injuries ganging up on me. I'm hoping that for mine, the cure will involve a thorough poking by someone young and pretty, so I can go dreamy while being poked by the someone young and pretty :-)

Fingers crossed, hope they fix it :-)

rub that calf, or have someone massage it for you
circulation and the draining of Lymph fixes a lot of aches.

hoping its a good result, have you eaten enough bananas?

I know someone who had DVT just by standing constantly on concrete all day at work. I hope it isn't so let us know how you get on.

Sending 'positive' thoughts your way Bob-Kat...

Negative is very positive here, BK. Vascular issues can be very dangerous so it's good that you didn't delay treatment. Good luck!

Sending positive thoughts your way...if it's that, the best is getting any treatments needed to make this better..the sooner the better. You have many here thinking about you and praying for the best.

Thinking of you BobKat. Please let us know as soon as you have more info. Don't let the Drs or their staff disuade you from getting the info you need.

Results do take time but make sure a qualified person gives you your results and explains them to you.

Thinking of you. It must be hard waiting around like that. I was going to say it's best to keep busy in the meantime, but then I remembered that you're one of the busiest bloggers I know. Fingers and toes crossed, and a hug.

I had to Google DVT. Now I know. I hope the results are negative as well and it is nothing more than some kind of persistent muscle cramp... or something.

Sorry I haven't been around here much lately, and thanks for popping in from time to time. I didn't forget about the honor you bestowed upon me... but I still haven't got around to awarding it anyone else. I will, but it might be a little while.

I am making a concerted effort to be more visible in the blog-o-sphere by visiting my favorite sights. Your's is absolutely among them.

Yeah, that negative/positive call back is strange - my dad had the same response when they tested his heart a few years back.

The ultimate 'No News is Good News'?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you, and I do hate to see you limp so badly :-((

Here's to Thursday turning into a celebration evening :-))
